Medical student Mary Mason is struggling with financial problems and job searching, then suddenly a new opportunity arrives. She will discover a new world she didn’t know existed, the world of illegal surgeries and body modification. The Soska sisters’ latest movie is an alternative independent horror which works pretty well and it’s quite enjoyable to watch even if it is a bit strong and not recommended to everybody. With plenty of blood and gory effects we are introduced to a world of extreme piercing, minor amputation, body implants and so on. The plot is good enough to keep your attention awake for all the length of the film, which is at least something different to watch, the Soska sisters (who also play a role in this movie) show something you don’t normally see in the average horror; it has some minor flaws and probably not the best ending, but at least it’s a very original story which doesn’t take reference to something you may have already seen. Made with a bigger budget than their previous movie (“Dead hooker in a trunk”), American Mary has some interesting and original points and it shows some talent from the sisters directors, worth to check it out, there is definitely something about Mary…
