Despite the fact that “Manchester by the Sea” won few oscars, this story is a great and sad journey into a man’s personal grief. Beautifully filmed and acted, this long film, which some viewer could find a bit disturbing due the subject of the plot, tells the story of an uncle who returns home to take care of his nephew after his brother dies. The main character’s past is revealed little by little with flashbacks, both past and present become very intriguing for the viewer and make Manchester by the Sea an unforgettable experience. There is a lot of sadness in this story, but also nice dialogues and some glimpses of hope, Kenneth Lonergan’s latest feature is not an easy one, the pace is quite slow and melancholic but it is definitely an experience that will leave something to the viewer, a captivating movie that should be watched by all cinema fans. Profound and powerful; do not miss it.
